  • 1 loaf Pasquier Sliced Brioche (17.6 ounces)
  • 4 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups milk (2% or whole)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
  • 2 cups assorted fresh berries
  • 3/4 cup sugar for sauce
  • 6 tablespoons butter for sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water for sauce
  • 1 large egg (well beaten) for sauce
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (1 large or 2 small lemons) for sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Cut the brioche into 1-inch cubes and toast on a baking sheet until golden.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the toasted bread with melted butter; set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon zest until smooth.
  4. Layer half of the bread in a greased baking dish followed by half of the berries. Repeat layers.
  5. Pour custard evenly over the layers and gently press down to submerge.
  6. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes or until set; cool for 20 minutes before serving.
