  • 1 box (15oz) white or vanilla cake mix
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherry juice
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (or vanilla)
  • 1 1/4 cups mini chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 can (14-ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 container (8-ounces) Cool Whip
  • 10 maraschino cherries, chopped, plus more for garnish
  • 3 tablespoons hot fudge sauce, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix cake mix, milk, vegetable oil, cherry juice, egg whites, and almond extract until combined.
  3. Fold in flour-coated mini chocolate chips gently.
  4. Pour batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan and bake for about 22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Once baked, poke holes all over the top of the warm cake using a fork.
  6. Pour sweetened condensed milk over the cake to soak in.
  7. Cool completely in the fridge, then spread Cool Whip on top and garnish with chopped cherries and hot fudge sauce.
